It’s official: I am a California Girl with a driver’s license to prove it! It has been a busy ten days since I arrived in Redding, but so far, I am thoroughly enjoying myself.
While my mom was here, we explored downtown Redding and sampled the local cuisine. Sometime in the future, I will take you on a video tour of downtown.
We also visited the Sundial Bridge, a Redding landmark and must-see if you visit! The Bridge is located on the Sacramento River Trail, which is likewise a major attraction in this area. The trail has already become my go-to running route (who wouldn’t love a mostly-flat route along a river?).
Speaking of running, one of the hardest parts about moving from the southeast is missing the 2014 Tuna 200 with the Banditos. I’ll be cheering all the way from CA! I am grateful, however, to have discovered an active running community in Redding. I have already found two possible events for September: Whiskeytown Relays, a 2 or 4 person run around Whiskeytown Lake (sadly, no whiskey is mentioned for runners); and the inaugural Sac River Trail Marathon (though I think I will opt for the 15k, not quite ready to jump into a marathon).
Other local finds include: the Cascade Theater, the Riverfront Playhouse, and Shasta County Arts Council. In fact, I have already been to a photo show at the Shasta County Arts Council! The name of the show was #ExploRedding, which I thought was perfect given my newly minted arrival. I look forward to telling you what I see at the other venues in the coming months.
With plenty left to explore, I think I will have no trouble keeping myself busy in Redding. I am also excited to start my job with the Bureau of Land Management tomorrow (please send good vibes)!
Post your questions and I’ll be happy to respond.
PS For my friend who was worried that they would not have a Trader Joe’s in Redding, never fear!
Glad you’re liking Cali Carly!! Both Gabbi and Tricia have moved there and love it as well!
Kendall, where are they in CA? It would be awesome if we had a chance to meet up!
Tricia is in LA but Gabbi Simon is in Davis….which I think is near-ish to you??…(Northern Cali at least lol)
Oh and she’s at a conference in Paris right now (rough life right!)
My old stomping grounds! Have fun!
Good vibes! Can’t wait to hear more! And so glad they have a Trader Joes for you!
enjoy your adventures! I know I am enjoying reading about them!
Carly, we are so close together! Redding is in the middle of nowhere! Yikes! How long are you here for?
