Welcome to a pictorial update of our trip across America! I thought it would be appropriate to start with a review of the states we have seen so far. The complete list includes Iowa, North Carolina, and South Carolina, but we passed signs for those states before we could turn on a camera.
Our first night on the road took us to Nashville, Tennessee where we had the pleasure of stopping outside the Grand Ole Opry. I played the Josh Ritter song “Golden Age of Radio” in honor of the occasion.
The next day, our adventure took us to the St. Louis arch! (The caption for the top picture would be: “There it is!”) The arch is known as the ‘Gateway to the West,’ and I took it as my personal westward expansion.
The night of day two brought us to the outskirts of Kansas City, MO/KS. There we found the Kansas City speedway and the biggest furniture store I have ever seen! If only I knew they had an everything store this big in Redding.
Filling up the gas tank is a common occurrence. So far the cheapest gas was in South Carolina $2.99 (on 8/23) and the most expensive was in Rock Springs, Wyoming at $3.67 (on 8/26).
Meanwhile human fuel has taken the form of gummy bears, margaritas (only after driving), and noodles:
Some other surprises from the trip:
